Detroit Experience
If you're attending TJS, join us for our annual
two days of pre-symposium fun!
We do something different every year.
A chance to see Detroit and build
friendships with TJS speakers and fellow attendees.
May 14 & 15 (Thurs & Fri) 2026
Business trips should include a little fun! And Detroit has a LOT of fun to offer.
So, each year, TJS coordinates two days of leisure activities for speakers and attendees.
It's a great way to network in a relaxed atmosphere, get to know your peers,
and build memories.
In previous years we visited the Motown Museum, toured the Ford Rouge F-150 Factory, the Edsel house, and the Detroit Institute of Art, and spent a day at Greenfield Village.
This year, we'll have several activities over two days:
Thursday
Morning Activity - work in progress. Details posted soon.
Ford Piquette Plant Museum
Enjoy a 75-minute guided tour of the iconic original Ford factory and birthplace of the Model T. An historic celebration of Detroit’s automotive heritage and spirit of innovation.

Detroit Princess Riverboat Dinner Cruise
Take in the sunset and the Detroit River scenery aboard the Detroit Princess Riverboat. Fill up on a fabulous buffet dinner, order your favorite cocktail at the bar, and jam out to the live Motown tunes of The Prolifics. (dinner is included with your ticket; drinks must be purchased separately, credit card only)
Friday
Enjoy a full day of dual access to both the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation AND Greenfield Village. Both sites have wonderful dining options for lunch, and more than you can see in a day.
Museum: Explore America's past through iconic artifacts, interactive exhibits and innovations. Your eyes will pop at the scale of the exhibits and the depth of history presented. Check out antique cars, trains, steam engines, furniture, art.... even the last Dymaxion house!
Village: Every corner of Greenfield Village tells a story. Discover seven districts that bring 300 years of perseverance and ingenuity to life in unforgettable ways. Step into places where bold ideas took flight — from the Selma Voting Rights Movement to Edison’s bright idea and the Wright brothers' soaring ambition. Explore a bustling historic market, ride on a Model T and enjoy the Village Green.
Fees = $200/person (includes all activities for both days)
Fee includes transportation and entrance/tours of each destination.
Except for the dinner on the Detroit Princess Sunset Cruise, meals are not included.
